Spring has been unbearably slow in coming to Chicagoland this year and April was one of the most depressing weather months in recent memory. Happily, it seems that we are having the more usual temperatures (85 yesterday, dropping to the 60’s today) and the flowers are blooming. Lilies of the valley are one of my favorite spring flowers and after several years, they are taking over the shady pine bed where I hoped they would flourish. Hooray! When I went outside to pick some stems this morning, I could smell them before I could see them…..it doesn’t get better than that!
