These fun gingerbread constructions are the prize winners in The National Gingerbread House Competition at the Grove Park Inn, located in Asheville, NC. The Inn is the perfect place to visit in December and was bustling with guests and those of us who came for dinner and to see the houses. Below is the grand prize winner! Beatris is from Ontario Canada and I have been wondering ever since, how she got her lovely creation to North Carolina!
Aren’t they great?
We’re looking for things to do over the holiday week. This is now on the list. Thanks.

Make a reservation at Edison for a fun and delicious meal! And go early to check out the craft gallery behind the hotel. The work there is terrific!

I love the thinking outside the “gingerbread house” box of some of the entries – very creative. Way back when, I tried a couple of times to make gingerbread houses – unsuccessfully I might add – and finally threw the recipe away in disgust. I do love seeing what others create though – thanks for the photos.

The truck was so cute and I’m not sure how she did it… I’ve done them a few times over the years, with mixed results! Way back when, my mother bought a mold for a solid house (like an Easter bunny or lamb). We did a village one year and they were quite easy to decorate.
Meery Christmas to you Beth!

I saw something online as well… They got big press this year for some reason! It would be fun to do an adobe one, with big sugar cacti instead of poinsettias!

I am just so curous about the logisitcs of it all. How did the lady from Canada get her house to NC? There is a litte video of houses arriving for the judging and a room full of them with the judges. They are up from after Thanksgiving until about the 3rd…starting to fall apart already. The prize winner is in a case on a revolving center with mirrors – hence all the reflections you see in the picture. Maybe we should enter next year! Grand prize is $25,000!
